Distractions are never ever a substitute for healing. However, they can be helpful. There are times when you need a friend or a hobby to take your mind off of your troubles. But if you let these be an excuse to push your feelings down and not confront them, you’ll end up worse than you started.
There are many types of distractions, from scrolling on your phone for hours, to more devastating distractions like drug or alcohol abuse. The best way to overcome these ailments is to talk to somebody and get proper help. Therapists or support groups are great resources in these situations. If these resources are not available to you or seem like too much, friends and family are a great place to start.
I know from experience that there are times when a distraction is exactly what you need, but when these distractions start interfering with real life, reach out to someone and get some help.
‼️ If you need assistance with your substance abuse, the SAMHSA National Helpline can help you find resources. Call 1-800-662-HELP (4357) or text 435748 (HELP4U)
